[By Rita Sabler, Symposium Correspondent, in Porto] Discovering Porto with Jim Richards Jim started by talking about how his family moved a lot when he was little, which forced him to pay attention to things that make the place what it is and become a keen observer of his new surroundings. Throughout the workshop James invited us to keep our eyes open and make a list of things that make Porto so unique. Is it its gorgeous and omnipresent azulejos? Or the intricate web of ironwork present in the railings and balconies? Or perhaps the way the city is laid out in rows of cascading streets...

[By Paulo Mendes, Symposium Correspondent, in Porto] Looking into the Symposium program, I always saw the third day as the most difficult, with workshops happening both morning and afternoon. I had six of these to visit and sketch, some of which requiring the tough climb from Alfândega to the city centre through the old streets and stairways not made for the unfit. I planned my day in order to start from the highest locations, moving towards the riverside and starting all over again after lunch.

Workshops all day round - Day 2

It was the longest Symposium day - I visited six and a half workshops, all of them now mixing well inside my head. The job of the correspondent allows us to taste a bit of many workshops, giving a brief impression about each one, but no one for real. But still, I got to know some new instructors, and got new angels on some old approaches. I will try to tell you my impressions from their workshops.
